Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a small flashlight for night observations
Bring layered clothing and hiking shoes or good tennis shoes. They should be high enough to protect you from scorpions etc. Sandals are definitely not a good idea
The temperatures can range from -20 in winter to 110 in summer. In fall, daytime highs in the lower 80's and nighttime lows in the upper 10's are not uncommon. Bring appropriate clothing
If you are planning to camp out bring a sleeping bag. Even in summer some nights can be chilly out here
If you plan on sleeping outside a cot will help keep critters (snakes, scorpions etc.) from getting too close to you
Except for a few isolated spots (like the intersection of Groom Lake Road and Hwy. 375) there is no cell phone coverage in Tikaboo or Sand Spring Valley. There is a public phone in Rachel outside the Little A'Le'Inn, but you will need a calling card to use it. It does not accept coins
